China Rainbow Network (CRN) was founded in the United States in October, 1996. In the past decades, it has developed from a personal webpage to an organization serving overseas gay Chinese in North America. CRN operates on a real name network platform based on mutual respect and trust to facilitate communication among our members, and, in addition, has organized activities such as trips and local gatherings at various locations on a regular basis. After 15 years of development, these efforts have not only strengthened the friendship among our members, but also provided us an opportunity to contemplate and explore the meaning of our lives and beings, which led to the convening of the 1st CRN conference in Buffalo, NY in 2008. At that conference, the participants, each with different education background and life experiences, discussed diverse topics commonly raised in the gay community. Part of our discussions was published in the following book “Crossing Two Lands”.
With the success of our 2008 conference, we are currently making preparations for the 2nd CRN meeting. This coming event will hold presentation, discussion and entertainment sessions. The focus of this meeting will still be on the discussion of life from a homosexual’s perspective, and involve 3 major topic categories:
1.Research articles related to homosexual topics;
2.Self-picked topics: e.g. Discussions of personal experience, gay marriage or gay daily life;
3.Literary criticism: e.g. Introduction and analysis of a gay themed movie or literature work.
The conference requires the submission of abstract before deadline. The abstracts will be reviewed by the 5-membered reviewing committee who will then return their constructive feedbacks.
Although this coming conference is organized by the CRN panel, we sincerely invite all interested friends to participate, so that we can together make contributions to the development of the gay Chinese community in North America. We have selected an appropriately sized summer house, suitable for both conference and lodging with easy access to sceneries. We also will arrange airport pickups, local transportation, food, and other entertainment activities. We will make great efforts to contain the expenses, and you are also welcome to plan for your own accommodations.
We sincerely hope that we can build up a friendship through this gathering.
